Issues on Virginity

In Sri Lankan culture from very long time period there is tradition to confirm the virginity by checking bleeding after first sexual encounter. In very old days a third party involve in confirmation. She is "Redi Nennda". But now this tradition is very rare in society. But seeking confirmation over virginity with bleeding marks on bed sheet is a common practice of people.

But according to health professionals it is very wrong method to verify the virginity of a girl using above mention mechanism because of many reasons.

1. A girl may have been born without a hymen
2. The hymen can easily be ruptured during normal physical activities and sport
3. The hymen can be stretched open by the use of tampons
4. Some types of hymen will stretch rather than rupturing and will not bleed at intercourse
5. In some women bleeding could be minute (very little) and therefore can easily be missed

Verifying virginity using the bleeding which happen due to breaking the hymen is not a very successful method with the complexity of the present society and the advancement of medical field (surgery). There are some degree of sexual activities which will not be involved the vagina. The other very important issue is the availability of hymnoraphy operations to repair or replace the hymen. This type of operations are very simple for medical professionals who replaces even kidneys and other main organs.

The other main thing is most of male who want to their bride a virgin is not a virgin himself. He may have encounter with many girls even fresh girls.

But for virgin boys, it is reasonable to keep hope a virgin girl for his marriage. So there must be a method to identify a true virgin girl.
